Barbara Ann Ostertag, age 56, of Austin, TX, passed away unexpectedly November 8, 2016. Barbara was born was born in Kansas, but raised in St. Mary's County, Maryland. She was the youngest in a sail-boating family whose home was on a tributary of the Patuxent River and the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. She attended St. Mary's College earning her nursing degree. Her constant bighearted concern for others led her to specialize in wound care nursing at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland (now part of the Walter Reed Medical Center.) She treated many military members wounded in Viet Nam.

Disabled after a serious fall, Barbara moved to Austin, TX, in 2001, to be near family. Living there, she doted on her young nieces and nephews as they grew up, thoroughly enjoying family outings and holidays. Her cheerfulness and gratitude in the face of her own handicap will never be forgotten. When her niece Lindsay Ann Ostertag was married to Adam Henning just last December (2015), Barbara remarked, "First on my bucket list has always been to attend Lindsay's wedding, and here I am!"

Barbara Ann Ostertag is preceded in death by her father and mother, Thomas and Joan Ostertag of Hollywood, Maryland, and is survived by her brother, Christian B. Ostertag of Park City, Utah and brother Mark Ostertag(Joan); sister-in-law, Samantha Elliott Stevens; nieces, Lindsay Ostertag Henning and Sarah Ostertag; nephews, Thomas Elliott Ostertag and Joseph Ostertag of Arlington, Virginia.

A service for family and friends will be held December 10th at 12 PM at Barton Creek Lakeside, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family believes that Barbara would want charitable donations to be made to St Jude's Hospital.
